In August 2011, SlowDive was presented at the Cairns Festival over three nights. The show, originally an immersive work performed in a nightclub, was adapted for the specific venue of the Cairns Attic Nite Club and partnered with the Centre of Contemporary Arts Cairns (CoCA).
The characters were re-styled to consider the demographic of the club. I needed Miranda and Jake to look different to the crowd, so I decided to go with a vintage look rather than present Miranda as the scantily clad trollop seen in the previous incarnations. Putting the work (about a nightclub) back into a nightclub meant that we didn’t need to tour with all the set as per the theatre adaptation. Rather, the choreography was translated to the performance space. For example, the circular bar scene occurred at the Attic bar and the pool table scenes were translated to the podium and pole in the club.
